I was mic’ed up, so I had to choose my words wisely. My son looked at me when they were doing the video, and he said, ‘Dad, are you really the greatest baseball player in the whole world?’ I wanted to look at him straight-faced and say, ‘Yes, I am,’ but since I was mic’ed up, I thought it might come off a little bit (wrong), so I said, ‘No, I’m just a baseball player.’ He goes, ‘But everyone is kind of acting like you’re the greatest in the whole world.’ I’m like, ‘Keep that thought.’

“We love what John Henry did for the Red Sox,’’ said Treacy, chairman of the Liverpool Supporters Club in Boston. “If Liverpool wins the league in a few years, he’ll be an honorary citizen of Liverpool. The people would embrace him.’’

Henry’s holding company, New England Sports Ventures, had its bid of $477 million accepted yesterday by Liverpool’s board of directors. That money would cover the debt and bank charges incurred by owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett when they purchased the team in 2007.

What do you think about the Red Sox owners possibly acquiring an English football (soccer) institution?

According to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com, the Patriots are in “serious” trade talks that would send Randy Moss to Minnesota.

Glazer said the two sides have been talking about a deal since the beginning of the season, and that the negotiations “heated up” Monday and Tuesday. A Patriots spokesman said after Glazer’s report first surfaced that “there is no trade.”
